The changes that Albertans are calling for must come from a grassroots movement of those who are dissatisfied with the status quo and have a vision of a province that is healthy, prosperous, and rich in culture.
Here is a story about grassroots.
One seed fell on fertile soil. It germinated and sprouted and grew into a fine blade of grass.
Another seed fell on clayey soil. Despite the added challenge, it germinated and sprouted and grew into a fine blade of grass.
A third seed fell, germinated, sprouted, and grew into a shrub that cast a shadow over the two blades of grass.
The first blade of grass was afraid to abandon its fertile ground and so remained in the shrub's shadow. Eventually, the first blade of grass withered and died.
The second blade of grass, having seen the fate of the first blade, craned and twisted and stretched for the sun. It was to no avail. The shrub had grown too big. The second blade weighed its options and decided to take a risk. Without absolute ccertainty of what may lay ahead, the blade shook the dirt from its roots and walked over to a sunny patch. It stretched its roots down into the soil in its new spot in the sun, only to find the most fertile soil in the field. The second blade living a long, happy life as the shrub's neighbour to the south.
Like the second blade of grass, Albertans need to envision a brighter future and have faith that change will happen. That change will come from the grassroots.
